Courting the Muse—An Introduction

During my time as a creative writing student at Florida State University, a driving factor in the whole creative experience was the never-ending search for inspiration. My poetic technique professor emphasized the necessity of “being conscious, being aware,” while other professors seemed to draw creative substance from their nightly gin and tonic. Some students jived collaboratively while others needed some sort of procrastination (such as cleaning their entire house) to clear their heads before launching their next foray into creativity. But whatever their poison, I found that everyone has a process of sorts that they follow when courting their muse.

As ad people are some of the most consistently creative individuals I’ve known, I thought it might be fun to delve into the creative processes of some of my favorites, my mates from B|G. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be posting a collection of some of the processes the individuals here use to court their collective muses.

In the meantime, what do you do to tempt inspiration?
