First there was bird flu. Then swine flu. Now: H1N1.
If you’ve watched the news or picked up a newspaper or magazine lately (remember those?) then I’m sure you’ve seen the ongoing reports of H1N1 flu here in the US. As I type, the Florida Department of Health is gearing up to begin distribution of a pandemic flu vaccine in order to provide for school-based inoculations.
Here at Brunet-García, I live in the world of Florida SHOTS™, the state’s free, online immunization registry, so I probably think about immunizations and health-related issues more than most. Added to that, last fall, I participated in a training conference about pandemic flu communications, and frankly, that scared the jeepers out of me.
I’ve always been a touch germaphobic, but the latest reports on H1N1 cases right here in Florida have been enough to make me wash my hands religiously. Apparently, not everyone out there shares this compulsion. According to the Florida Department of Health, only four out of five people wash their hands. (The rest of you know who you are out there—yuck!)
So what do you think about H1N1? All hype? Impending doom? Give me your opinion on Brunet-García’s pandemic flu poll. Once you vote you’ll get to see how others are voting (just like a CNN or ESPN poll).
Don’t get me wrong…I’m an eternal optimist who’s not waiting for the sky to fall anytime soon. But if it does, I’m going to have clean hands!
